Learn from the one-of-a-kind insights of a combat veteran to support your team in navigating uncertainty and thinking differently.
Troy’s mates know him as ‘Norm’ or ‘TK’. A typical Queensland boy, Troy grew up enjoying surfing, playing rugby league, and generally looking for mischief. Fuelled by a thirst for adventure and the need to push boundaries, Troy walked into the Townsville Defence Force Recruiting office in 1999, just after the start of the East Timor crisis.
Disappointed to learn that Army Recruit training was bottlenecked for eight months, an Air Force Sergeant asked Troy if he knew about the RAAF Airfield Defence Guards. This sliding door moment saw Troy subsequently travel to Afghanistan, Iraq and beyond and become one of Australia’s first Combat Controllers attached to the Australian Special Forces.
Now back in Australia, Troy supports fellow veterans through his charity work and his active promotion of veteran-led businesses.
Recognising the toll that poor mental health takes on individuals and organisations, Troy is a passionate mental health advocate, sharing his own experiences to inspire action. Harnessing his unique skills and experiences to identify and address potential issues, Troy aims to make a positive difference to organisations in Australia and around the globe.
“When you’re in the thick of things it’s hard to see a way out. Getting someone to look at things from another angle helps you find a way.”
A down-to-earth speaker, Troy shares his many adventures in a laidback way that’s both humorous and very real to engage, entertain and educate the audience.
Troy harnesses the skills and methodologies that once supported him in the field to identify shortfalls and work with your business to address them.
